Jean-Pierre Vivian studied theatre at the Conservatoire d’art dramatique de Lyon (1973-1976) and has taken part in many theatre, film and television projects. After traveling throughout Europe, the United States and the Caribbean, he moved to Montreal in the late eighties and set about his career as a sculptor, serving as director of Montreal’s Atelier Sculpt in 1996-1997. Vivian uses a range of materials in his installations, while most of his work comprises relatively abstract stone sculptures. He has exhibited his pieces in both solo and group shows, notably at the Consulate General of France in Montreal (1993) and the Galerie d’art Outremont (1994). His most recent Montreal exhibition took place in 2010.
