Bill Vincent took art courses at the HB Beal Institute in London, Ontario, but describes himself as a self-taught artist. Now living in Montreal, he has participated in roughly forty solo and group exhibitions and completed a dozen projects for the integration of art into architecture. A great deal has been published regarding the significance of his print work and sculptures, and in 2013, he received both the Prix Videre Reconnaissance en arts visuels and the Prix d’excellence en arts et culture. Vincent produces works inspired by his travels in Canada, Europe and West Africa. Using colourful pigments, tar, soil, sheet metal and wood carved with either a saw or a chisel, he creates an imaginative transcultural mythology which draws upon the symbolism of zoomorphism and various sacrificial rituals.
