Born in Italy, Guerino Ruba was among the award winners at the 1992 Concours bisannuel de sculpture Loto-Québec. In his work, he sculpts carcasses, skins and mutilated human or animal bodies that are hung or imprisoned in cages, ironically laid out on pieces of furniture or at times slumped in frying pans. Animal abuse, war, torture and the extermination of particular groups are themes explored in his impressions, free-standing sculptures and occasional outdoor installations.
