After attending the École des beaux-arts de Montréal (1967-1969), Serge Poulin earned a BFA (1973) and an MFA (1982) in visual arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal, where he taught part-time from 1986 to 1993. Also during this time, he produced sets for film (1987) and for dance performances (1985-1986). He uses various materials (aluminum, polyester) in his work, which centres on the continuous passing of time. His splintered constructions, which either rise up or crumble to the ground, project their various facets like portions of space that reveal temporal moments, glimpses of macro-time that are imperceptible in reality.
