Gilles Morissette holds a BFA from the University of Alberta in Edmonton (1977), an MFA from Concordia University (1980) and a PhD in Esthétique, sciences et technologies des arts from Université Paris 8 in Saint-Denis, France (1995). A professor at Dawson College since 1984, he has participated in a large number of exhibitions across Canada and has received many grants and prestigious awards. His works have a scientific aspect and deal with the themes of time, energy and movement. Through skilfully incorporated shadows, light effects and contrasts between clarity and obscurity, they encourage viewers to determine their own positioning in the environment and to reflect upon their relationship to the work.
