François Morelli holds a BFA from Concordia University (1975) and an MFA from Rutgers University in New Jersey (1983). He began his teaching career at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières and has been a professor at Concordia University since 1996. As a sculptor, installation artist and performance artist, he has exhibited his work in Canada, the United States and France. In 2011, the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec granted him an artist’s residency at the Quebec studio in New York City. The theme of domesticity runs through his work, in which typical objects, as well as the odd fake body part, emphasize the heaviness of existence; akin to critical and ironic enclosed spaces, they resemble utopias in which complete freedom and absolute transparency of information reign.
