Martin Boisseau is an artist from Montreal, represented for many years by Galery Graff. Between 1989 and 1992, he finished a bachelor’s degree in visual arts at the University of Quebec in Montreal (UQAM), and then a master’s degree in visual arts at the same university between 1992 and 1995. He completed a doctorate (Ph.d) in arts studies and practices, still at UQAM, in 2002. Martin Boisseau obtained various research grants between 1989 and 2006, especially those of the Council of Arts and Letters of Canada in 2006, as well as the Council of Arts of Maurier in 2001. Between 1987 and 2015, the artist did several solo exhibitions presented in Quebec, for example Sixth Treatment: Saturated Drawings and Formal Precariousness in 2015 at Galery Graff, Third Time: Iconophil Disassembly in 1999 at Dazibao or Collective Memories (1993) at Galerie Trois Points, and also participated in group exhibitions such as Quebec-Paca Exchange: Extension of the Practice of Ideas (2017) at Museum of Contemporary Art of Baie-Saint-Paul or at the Manif d’Art of Quebec (2002). Most of his work is part of public collections in major artistic institutions, such as the National Museum of Fine Arts of Quebec, the National Bank, the National Library of Quebec and the Joliette Museum of Art. The multidisciplinary artistic practice of Martin Boisseau explores drawing, engraving, photography, videography and also various sculptural techniques of assembly and mechanization. In general, his artwork achieves a trial of representation devices by diverting the poietic, questioning by then the conditions of possibilities of image.
