LEMYRE, Marcel (1948-1991)

Marcel Lemyre produced ceramic, bronze and clay sculptures. In 1979, he assisted Betty Goodwin in transforming the Montreal apartment at 4005 De Mentana Street into an environmental installation. In 1988, he was awarded the Canada Council for the Arts’ prestigious Joseph S. Stauffer Prize. While his rough, chalky clay works represent ill-treated and transfixed bodies, his bronze creations – Figure and Spoon, for example – combine schematized human figures and everyday objects in a single form.
