LEBEL, Nicole (1958)

Nicole Lebel completed a BFA in fine arts and contemporary dance at Concordia University (1989), foundation courses in art history (1994) and an MFA in visual and media arts at the Université du Québec à Montréal (2001) where she is currently pursuing doctoral studies. In 1989, she received an Explorations Grant from the Canada Council for the Arts for a collaborative project in visual arts and dance with choreographer Isabelle Choinière. In 1991, she received a second grant from the Canada Council for a collaborative project with architect Annie Lebel. As well as teaching at various visual art centres and at the Université du Québec à Montréal, Lebel explores the relationship of body movements to their environment in her artwork. This theme is present in her lectures, her critical texts and throughout the works she often exhibits across Quebec.
