Roch Lamothe completed a PhD in aesthetics and the technology of art at Université Paris 8 and has been teaching fine arts at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue since 1981. While best known as a painter, he has created an impressive number of colourful and textured low-relief murals as part of the 1% policy of integrating arts and architecture. In addition to fourteen murals in the Outaouais region, he has completed large-scale projects in northern Quebec, including at the Centre hospitalier de Val-d’Or (2003), the Centre Polymétier de Rouyn-Noranda (2008) and the Amos Ministry of Transportation (2010).
