Initially self-taught, Claude Lamarche later trained in visual arts at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, receiving a BFA in 1983. Known as Claude Lamarche-2/NPC, he became a founding member of the artist collective Médium: Marge in Jonquière in 1997. Lamarche is a multidisciplinary artist (video, music, sculpture, poetry, theatre, performance, installation, computer graphics) who has exhibited his work in Montreal, Quebec City and Vancouver. He has received a number of grants and was awarded the 1991 Prix Sculpture Alcan special jury prize for Hymne Hydrique, produced in collaboration with Claude Martel. In his work, he examines the human being’s quest for an absolute ideal, glimpsed but never attained.
