Born in Normandy, Antoine D. Lamarche began his arts training in Peru at the Escuela de Bellas Artes in Lima. He moved to Quebec in the early sixties to round out his studies at the École des beaux-arts de Montréal, later joining the workshop founded by Claude Théberge that focused on the integration of art into architecture. Lamarche’s work includes sculptures at three Montreal subway stations: Bas-reliefs (with Claude Théberge) at Verdun (1978), Bas-reliefs (with Claude Théberge) at De l’Église (1978) and Un arbre dans le parc (with Michel Dernuet and Claude Théberge) at Georges-Vanier (1980). He also designed the 1999 medal for the scientific categories of the Prix du Québec and was elected into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts in 2001.
