Francine Lalonde holds a BFA in sculpture from Concordia University (1986), an MFA from the Université du Québec à Montréal, and a diploma in translation from the Université de Montréal (2003). She taught at the Cégep de Rimouski in 1994 and is currently a professor at the Cégep Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil. Lalonde has exhibited her work many times in Quebec; she has also created public artworks that include Jardin de planètes at the Cégep de l’Outaouais in Gatineau (1995), Vent solaire at Cégep Bourget in Rigaud, (2010) and Élan fluide at the Cité des arts et des sports in Valleyfield (2011). Although formally integrated into their spaces, her works open out like flexible surfaces, form hollow rifts or rise up like bulges, while any fixed wall structures seem to emerge from where they are mounted. These protruding features are in fact a signature element throughout Lalonde’s work.
