Yves Gonthier studied visual arts at Université Laval and has presented paintings and sculptures in numerous exhibitions both in Canada and abroad. He has completed several public works integrated into architecture, including Le cadre naturel (“the natural frame”), an immense sculpture that “frames” the landscape of Maria beach in Gaspésie. His work also includes ephemeral environmental pieces produced in situ, particularly in the snow, that he preserves through photographs. He was awarded the 2003 Prix de la création artistique by the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec for his contribution to art in Quebec. In 2010, he presented a work of performance art in Venice as part of the event Perfomedia, inviting guests to participate in creating a painting entitled La naissance des saisons (“the birth of the seasons”).
