GERVAIS, Léo (1917-2008)

Wood carver Léo Gervais created both figurative and abstract pieces, often in the shape of birds, bears, oxen and ducks. He collaborated with Hélène Ouvrard on a book entitled La sculpture sur bois (“wood carving”), which was published in 1970 by Éditions Beauchemin as part of the series Initiation aux métiers d’art, numéro 9 (“introduction to arts and crafts”; republished in 1974 by Éditions Formart). His work was also the subject of the film Léo Gervais, sculpteur (“Léo Gervais, sculptor”), produced by Claire Boyer in 1982.
