Christiane Gauthier graduated from Concordia University with a Bachelor’s degree in visual arts. In 1997, she held Furtifs at the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. The exhibition comprised photographs of clay being kneaded, glimpses of moments when the artist had seen the fleeting image of a face: primordial, archetypal faces emerging out of the earth and the depths of time, captured by the camera before returning to the cycle of metamorphosis. In Objets d’inédit, a touring exhibition featuring several artists, Gauthier presented objects that subtly hinted at metaphorical landscapes, her sculptures evoking enigmatic, dreamlike images reflecting the passage of time and the erosion of matter.
