One of the founder and ex-president of the Association des Sculpteurs sur Pierre de la Montérégie (ASPM), Alain Dionne has held many solo exhibitions and participated in various large-scale art events. In 2009, for example, he was part of a group representing Quebec at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SNBA), organized at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris. His artistic endeavours have centred on paring down forms and attaining pure lines, exploring texture as well as the balance between material and empty space. At Land Art 2007 in Mont Saint-Hilaire, he presented Courte pointe (“quilt”), a bed and bedspread made entirely from plant materials; the piece featured apples in particular as a nod to the region’s embattled apple growers. His work can be found in several countries, including France and Morocco.
