In 1992, Marcel Deschênes created a polychrome mural of glued laminated timber (glulam) for the Hauts-Bois primary school in Mascouche. He held an exhibition at the Musée d’art de Joliette that same year entitled Marcel Deschênes. Œuvres récentes, which was featured in a publication. Deschênes later published his own book in 2003: L’art de qui? – Analyse et description chiffrées de ce qui nous tient lieu de marché de l’art (“Whose art? – facts and figures about what we call the art market”). The text stirred a certain amount of controversy, asserting that Quebec’s funding system for the visual arts had failed.
