Germain Desbiens is a sculptor, muralist, teacher and art workshop facilitator. He completed studies in art, education and animation at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, as well as several professional development internships in silk-screening, concrete, pottery, glass and ancient frescoes. He uses contemporary materials in assemblage, casting, model sculpture and foundry to create artwork of all sizes, often taking on projects for the integration of art into architecture and the environment. The recipient of numerous grants and scholarships, he has presented his work in solo and group exhibitions in Canada and in France. In 1987, as part of the Baie-Comeau sculpture symposium Énergie 3+4, he created an immense structure in reinforced concrete entitled Avant Âge. His interest in snow sculpture has also led him to serve as president of the jury at several editions of Quebec’s International Snow Sculpture Competition. Since 2007, Desbiens has owned Auberge Artistique, an inn and art gallery where he displays his work and offers art courses from his atelier. Among his many accolades is first prize at the 2006 Rencontre des Arts in recognition of his entire body of work.
