Jean-François Cantin studied at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ School of Art and Design (1975-1977) and creates installations, performances and videos. In 1994-1995, he presented Le rêve d’une ombre as part of the Série Projet organized by the Musée d’art contemporain de Montréal. This cinematic work was inspired by Cantin’s interest in the playful, poetic and erotic potential of light projections made using optical devices. In 2002, at the Centre d’exposition CIRCA, he exhibited Les amants du Lac Vostok, an installation that portrayed the notions of utopia and ideals as fundamental principles in all research and transformation.
