François Bourdeau holds a BFA in visual arts from the Université du Québec à Montréal (1982). He also completed printmaking courses in France (1982) and technical training in sculpture at Centre Est-Nord-Est in Saint-Jean-Port-Joli (1993, 1995 and 1996). A founding member of Montreal’s Galerie Clark in 1989, he participated in the 1998 Symposium international de la sculpture de Saint-Jean-Port-Joli and has shown his work at numerous galleries, such as B 312 and the Centre culturel de La Pocatière. Seeking to combine popular art and contemporary art, abstraction and figuration, Bourdeau presents sculpture that places the massive, heavy quality of wood in opposition to a structure that evokes suppleness and lightness. In 2004-2005, he exhibited Sculptures-atelier in several cities in Quebec, including at the Centre d’exposition d’Amos and the Musée du Bas-Saint-Laurent in Rivière-du-Loup.
