Lorraine Benic is a painter, sculptor and printmaker with a thorough knowledge of traditional printmaking techniques, which she has taught both in France and in Quebec. Her works have been exhibited in a number of major institutions, such as the Musée de Lachine, the Musée d’art de Joliette and the Canadian Cultural Centre in Paris. She has also participated in international exhibitions in Tunis, Paris and Ljubljana (in former Yugoslavia). At Galerie Engramme in 2001, Benic presented Amalgame, an exhibition featuring etchings and embossed low-relief pieces. Characterized by great rigour, close attention to detail and impeccable precision, her work is a reflection on objects with volume and on the intermingling of materials. The customary function of these materials is shifted as elements from Benic’s own etchings (cut up plates, rejected prints) are used as sculpting material.
