Gilles Girard graduated from Université Laval in 1976 with a Bachelor’s degree in visual arts. In addition to teaching, he has created a wide variety of sculptures using a curious array of objects with surrealist connotations. The strange bestiary that results exudes black humour and sarcasm, drawing observers into a dreamlike and often disconcerting world. He also produces installations by combining found objects with sound, electronic or mechanical elements. As well as solo and group exhibitions, he has undertaken numerous projects for the integration of art into architecture, including at the Fisheries Branch in Gaspé, the library of Amqui and the Pavillon-de-l’Avenir in Rivière-du-Loup.
